Watching and Waiting

Confession time: when I was a teenager and a new Christian I really was excited about end times teaching - you know, the books that have the timelines and dates and all that. I saw nuclear warfare, high tech helicopters, and maybe even Henry Kissenger, in the pages of Revelation. I am slightly embarrassed today to admit that I was certain that Jesus was going to return before the 1980's came to an end.

Why It's Good for the Church to Have It's Faith Stretched Regularly

Just when it seemed as though we had enough going on to "stretch our faith", the Lord seems to be stirring my heart and the hearts of others in GCC to prayerfully consider some fresh steps of faith. I think of that old phrase "being on the stretch for God".

Let the Word of Christ Dwell In You Richly

One of the characteristics of the Spirit-filled life as described in Ephesians 5:18 is found in the parallel verse of Colossians 3:16, where the same evidences of being filled with the Spirit are produced by the word of Christ dwelling richly among us.

God In the Attic or God the Playwright?

I found this great thought in Timothy Keller's book, The Reason for God, and I thought I'd pass it on. Enjoy!

I Hit 100% With My Predictions

It's no small accomplishment to be 100% wrong about the results of last weekend's playoff games. I didn't get one game right! What are the odds of that happening? I'm kinda proud about it...

Play-off Predictions

Well, here we are again, it's play-off time. As a Giants fan, I am pretty jazzed about Sundays game against the Eagles. I can't deny I'm hoping for a Superbowl repeat, but I realize that the Eagles are coming in hungry, with momentum, and with a win over the Giants in their last regular season meeting. So there is no arrogant cockiness here (well ok, maybe a little, but only a little). What a great time of year! I love the play-offs!!!

He Restores My Soul

In Psalm 23 David writes of the Lord our Shepherd, "He restores my soul." I am not sure I fully appreciate how important it is that my soul be regularly restored, but I want to grow in the awareness of my soul's need to be restored. We have a hard time ignoring the signals of a physically sick body, but I suspect for many of us it is all too easy to limp along with a thin and malnourished soul.

Applying the Word

At the close of this past Sunday's message entitled Saved By Grace Alone I asked some application questions. My family spent some time this week discussing them and found them to promote good interaction (and some pretty interesting observations!) over the truths in Ephesians 2:1-10, so in the hope that these questions might also serve you and your family, here they are...

Saying Goodbye...

This past Monday we thought Janice's mom was going home to be with the Lord. Mom Lehman is a godly, humble, loving woman who served the Lord Jesus faithfully for many, many years, but has had advanced alzheimer's for over 15 years and no longer seems to recognize even her closest loved ones. She is ready to go home to be with her Lord.
