Life Together

This will be a pain-filled, tear-filled Christmas for many parents, siblings, family and friends of those precious children and six teachers murdered in Newtown, CT. The warmth and merry-making of the season will be like a cold wind on their hearts. But the true and deep meaning of Christmas is not out of place or out of touch with tragic events such as the mass murder of children in Newtown. Jesus came to rescue us from a dark world where such evil is possible, and Christmas is a celebration of his birth into this dark world. He was not born in pomp and grandeur, he was born in humility and weakness, in order to identify with the hurting and lost and sinful and sinned-against and broken. He came as the Savior of the world, and the world is a messed up place.

John Piper has written a short article entitled How Does Jesus Come To Newtown? I hope that it encourages your soul and gives you a soft and caring answer to those who might be reeling in the wake of this horrible tragedy. Jesus is our hope and our Suffering Sovereign.
